How are trade books different than academic books?\n\n\n\nJoin the Office of Public Scholarship and Lisa Sharkey\, Senior Vice President and Publisher at HarperCollins Publishers\, for a workshop that will answer these questions by detailing the realities of the industry today.\n\n\n\nThis workshop is for WashU faculty only.\n\n\n\nCo-sponsored by the Office of Public Scholarship and the English Department's Publishing Specialization. \n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited\; registration is required.\n\n\n\nLunch will be provided from Coffeestamp at Grounds for Change. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nAbout Lisa Sharkey\n\n\n\nLisa Sharkey is the SVP and Publisher of Harper Influence at HarperCollins. Following more than two decades producing\, writing\, and developing Emmy award-winning television news\, including a role as Senior Producer of Good Morning America\, Lisa made the switch into books because of her love for literature\, storytelling\, and going deep.\n\n\n\nSharkey is a champion of powerful\, poignant\, and persuasive storytelling. More than 75 of the books she’s published have become New York Times bestsellers\, selling millions of copies in multiple languages across the globe over the past 19 years.\n\n\n\nSharkey is a mother of three\, a yoga teacher\, and a mentor of military veterans who are transitioning into civilian life. She is a visiting lecturer in the "Art of Publishing" course offered through the English department at her Alma Mater Washington University in St. Louis. She helped develop the Publishing specialization at WashU\, receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award in the spring of 2024. Additionally\, Sharkey is a presenter at the London Book Fair\, where she delivered the keynote address at the 2024 Writers Conference. She is also an instructor at the Kauai Writers Conference\, as well as a speaker on career transition\, publishing in the zeitgeist\, social media and women in entertainment.\n
